What would happen to this world if there was no such thing as war? War is a large part of this world. How many people would be living on this Earth right now if World War II never happened? Think of China, who lost 20 million people. Think of the Soviet Union, who lost 30 million people. Think of Lithuania, who lost 14% of their population. World population has been skyrocketing lately, but where would we be if that war had never happened?
World War II is known as the deadliest war ever. Not only did people die in fighting, but they also died at home or in camps known as "Death Camps" or "Concentration camps."
Out of all of the countries, the Soviet Union lost the largest number of people. Their death totals were between 21 to 28 million people. After the Soviet Union came China, who lost
10-20 million people. But, in terms of what percent of people died in each country, Lituania was hit the hardest, loosing about 14% of their population to the war, followed by the Soviet Union, who lost between 13 and 14% of their people. China, on the other hand, lost only about 3% of their population.
Overall, the death camps played a large roll in the number of deaths in WWII. The chart to the left gives you an idea of just how many were killed in the death camps. In total, there were about 5-6 million Jewish deaths in the war. 200,000 to 250,000 handicaped people were killed.
Germany's concentration camps are well known in today's world. But, the horrible things that happened in those camps overshadowed Japan's war crimes. About 5.5 million civilians died in the war thank's to Japan.
So many people died in this war. Many of them were not even soldiers. The millions of people killed is unbelievable. Nothing else like this has ever happened before.
I wanted to do an article on something a little different. Something that maybe some people had never even thought about. I mean, we all hear about the number of Jews killed by Germany, but how many people actually realize how many other people died? Every country lost people, not just Russia, not just Germany, not just China or Britain. This was a deadly war and we took few short cuts to preserve life. All we cared about was ending the war quickly.
